I bought a 1966 galaxie 500 about 4-5 months ago and ive been slowly restoring it as my first driver. I made the mistake of trying to home job a valve job and ive got to have the heads evened out, so the proccess has really slowed. My main goal is just getting it driveable so i can pass an inspection. The body is in great shape and the factory glass packs still sound strong, but the interior is a wreak and almost all of the wiring will need to be replaced. Ill be referring back here for help later, but my main concern is finding a wiring diagram for the car. If i can i want to find a fuse box out of a junk car and upgrade my car to the new fuses, as im not good at finding the right bus fuses and neither are the guys at autozone. If anyone has a wiring diagram for this car i would be very grateful for a link to it. I've been to 3 other forums and i have yet to find any help.

Thanks,
Ryan

I have all the wiring diagrams however, they are separated into sections like dash and light and stereo and so on. I bought a copy of Detroit iron on CD that has paid for itself numerous times. Since you, like me, am trying to do everything yourself the cd will give you original part number torque settings and pretty much anything to make you feel like you can do it yourself. Best tool in my toolbox.

I have the wiring diagrams that FE posted but im acually looking for a diagram that is in sections. I have ADD and when i look at the one FE posted i just stare and think "ok..........um". I would like to get a freeware diagram if i can. Im having to get a valve job redone and my valve seats evened out on the heads, and with me only being 16 that put a big dent in my wallet. As for progress pictures, not much has changed since i got it so i will post the original pictures of when i bought it when im able.

yea, im sure there's one out there, but i have been looking since i got the car and have had no luck. My grandfather gave me his "Motor's Repair Manual 1946-1973" but he hasen't been able to find his motor's wiring diagram. Im thinking that most of my problems are old switches, but im having touble like the bottom headlights wont go out on dim and i dont think a switch can cause that. Also, i need to replace my wiper motors and possibly a few of my guages, but i dont want to have to take the dash out because im told that the dash is a nightmare to put back in. Is there and easier way to get to all of that without spending a week just pulling it out?

The headlight problem could be in the dimmer switch, or faulty ground on the dimmer switch.

if you go on amazon.com, there is a company that sells a blown up laminated, color coded wiring diagram for 15 bucks. I bought one and its awesome, plus no more greasy thumbprints in my factory service manual.

check it out!

Once you study the wiring diagram you wil find that it's really simple system. What I do is leave the orignal wire harness as is. I purchase a fuse box from Painless wiring part number 70107 and a couple of relay to go with it. It has ing. hot and battery hot. I use this fuse box for all the add on. The thing with the light switch it supply power for other item. I have had to replace the light switch, because of that. If you would go to my web site smugmug.com which is my photo album site and look at the Torino photo you will see how I use the Painless fuse box. I have done this to 3 cars and I'm working on my fourth one now. I wish you luck on your rebuild and looking forward to see the finish car.

Bro, neaten up those plug wires!

Anyway, Jim Osborne supplies the reprint wiring diagrams to the catalog houses.

Yea, i know lol. i pulled some clips off a honda so ill put those on when i get the heads back from the shop. Also, i was wondering if there was an exaust expert and a cold air intake expert here. I want to put a cold air intake kit in the car because i have been told by many people that it improves mileage, power, and really helps with cold starting, but i was wondering just how much a cold air kit would affect these attributes. And for the exaust, it still has the factory Cherry Bomb Glass Packs on it and they sound really good, but im not really into cars that are loud all the time, especially with the sharp sound that the packs make. I'm looking for some cherry bombs that have a strong low hum at idle and produce sort of a "Ra-Ra" sound at around 4000-4500rpms if that makes any sense. As for the wiring diagram, of all places, my local library thinks they might have the Motor's Wiring Diagram 1946-1972 book. Im supposed to stop by today after classes and see if they still have it. And one last thing that actually reffers to the restoration of the car. Im wanting to repaint the car white and redo the interior black. I want to repaint the pieces of the dash that are in good shape so im not wasting money on already black parts. Is there a set of detailed instructions on how to remove and reinstall the dash? I heard its a major pain in the ass to put it back in so i want to do it right. Ill post some more pictures of the interior later today if im able since its the most worn out section of the car.

What's your name on smug? I would love to see the pictures of that torino. My top 3 cars that i was looking for were either a Galaxie, Torino, or T-Bird. And ill definatly look into that painless fusebox. My grandfather is restoring a 54' Ford Custom Line and im having to help him with the easywire harness on it. And while im thinking of that, as a personal favor for him, does anyone know where i can find the "Custom Line" emblem that goes on the sides of the car? He cant seem to find it anywhere and i would like to get it for him since he got me into this hobby and has helped me out the most parts wise. It looks kind of like this emblem off of a fairlane.

If anyone can find this i would be very greatful.
Thanks,
Ryan

Nice torino, i really like how you arranged the stereo. Looks good. Another question, looking at the first picture of the engine, is the black cylinder right above the master cylinder the windshield wiper motor? And where can i find the flasher unit?
